 Through the generosity of Andrew Carnegie, EVPL West opened to the public in January of 1913 as one of Evansville's two Carnegie Libraries. Situated on one of our community's picturesque parks, EVPL West can be found on Franklin Street. Inside our historic walls, patrons have access to all the comforts of today with WiFi, public computer access, copiers, and more. Each Saturday during the summer, you can find EVPL team members creating fun experiences for our community at the Franklin Street Bazaar.

My Work

I will be an experienced and successful leader to customers who visit a neighborhood library location.  I will focus on providing an excellent customer experience by ensuring all services are properly executed, the correct amount of staff is available and properly trained to assist with the customer experience.  Additionally, I will maintain accurate records to assist in preparing reports, collection development, and related work as apparent or assigned.  As part of supervision, I vow to set a positive example to all who work within the library.  Furthermore, as a member of the community, I will always represent the Library in a professional manner while promoting our activities and services.

My Role in a Learning Organization

I know that to a library user I am the library, whether I am on the job, riding a bus, or checking out at the grocery store.  I have a positive mental attitude and enthusiastic role for the work I do.  I display initiative to delight a customer with extraordinary customer service. I communicate with library users, colleagues, community members in an effective, enthusiastic and respectful manner.  I am honest and act with integrity and respect.

I have a team role and work collaboratively with colleagues and other teams. I strive to have good organizational skills and work well under pressure. I am dependable and hardworking.

I have a career development role and am a curious learner and am willing to learn and develop new skills.

What I Need to Know to Be Successful

I need to have a Bachelor's degree in a related field, Master's in library and information services from an ALA accredited university, or related field and considerable experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

I need a valid driver's license.

What I Need to Know About the Physical Requirements

My work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy locations (e.g. business office, light traffic).
